Mercedes Disclose Why Lewis Hamilton Chooses to Stay in the Dark

The 2021 Formula 1 season hosted one of the most dramatic and entertaining title dual F1 has seen for a long time whose controversy still continuous. 7 times world champion Lewis Hamilton lost in the final lap of season finisher in Abu Dhabi to reigning world champion Max Verstappen thanks to a Michael Masi decision to allow only the cars between leader Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen to unlap during the safety car lap allowing Verstappen to secure the crown using his fresh tyre advantage.

Following the controversial decision team Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton seen in utter disbelief and appealed against the decision which they believe to be unfair. The FIA stewards rejected the appeal legitimising Max Verstappen’s title win, Mercedes decided not to appeal against the FIA decision after consulting with Lewis Hamilton.

Following the Abu Dhabi steal Lewis Hamilton detached and kept himself away from public platforms only coming in media presence during his Knighthood ceremony and farewell ceremony of his ex-team mate Valtteri Bottas. Lewis Hamilton did not attend the compulsory FIA gala and unfollowed everyone on Instagram. Lewis Hamilton also didn’t respond to messages from new FIA precedent   Ben Sulayem all of which caused fans to speculate retirement of the British racing legend. Now Sky Sports News’ Craig Slater reported on Lewis Hamilton future quoting senior Mercedes officials.

Craig Slater reported only 69 days left for 2022 F1 season to start and quoted Toto wolf saying , for Lewis Hamilton to return to grid following the ‘disillusionment’ of Abu Dhabi GP FIA should come up with its finding about what happened in the last lap of Abu Dhabi as pledged by them before charismas. He added quoting another Mercedes senior official that longer the investigation take it will take more time for Lewis Hamilton to get back and added they want a tangible solution the problem.  

“With 69 days to go until the first Grand Prix in Bahrain, it is still unclear whether Lewis Hamilton will be on the grid,” Craig Slater reported for sky sports.

In terms of Hamilton coming back to Formula 1, having the appetite to do so and getting over the ‘disillusionment’ that his team boss Toto Wolff said he felt after Abu Dhabi, the onus is on the FIA to deliver on the pledge they made before Christmas to investigate the happenings on that final lap and to come up with some findings,” Craig Slater explained.

It is understood that Mercedes want to see something tangible. It’s been put to me like this: the longer this drags on then the worse the Lewis Hamilton situation is, and that is from a senior source,” Craig Slater added.
