It seems like Alfa Romeo could make staggering switch from Ferrari to Mercedes power units in the 2022 season. Now that Kimi Raikkonen has announced his desire to leave the sport, it is being reported that Valtteri Bottas shall be making his way into the Swiss-based Sauber team. This might seem a shock to many race fans as Alfa Romeo recently extended their sponsorship deal with Ferrari. 

To those who are unaware, boss of the Brackley-based team Toto Wolff and his Alfa Romeo counterpart Frederic Vasseur are known to be friends. Moreover, there were also rumors suggesting Finn Rausing met with Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius last weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.

What is clear is that Mercedes has almost certainly now decided to install George Russell in Valtteri Bottas’ place at Mercedes alongside Lewis Hamilton next year. 

“A decision has been made,” Kallenius told Sky Deutschland“But it will be announced at the right time.” 

Wolff added, “The right time has come, but of course we have to consider all of the stakeholders who are involved.” 

Finally, Ralf Schumacher questioned reports that his nephew Mick and backer Ferrari have now definitely signed a new deal with Haas for the 2022 season.
