“More important than winning F1 world championship,” Lando Norris reacts after being voted as British Driver of the Year for third consecutive time

Lando Norris had his best season so far in 2021 as he secured his first F1 pole position in 2021 and finished sixth in the drivers’ championship, ahead of his teammate Veteran Daniel Ricciardo, with 160 points. Lando Norris drove his McLaren to 4 podiums last season and he unfortunately missed out on 2 wins ,one to fellow English man Lewis Hamilton and other to his teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
Autosport, the global motorsport publishing brand based in Richmond, London established 1950 at the same time as the origins of the Formula One World Championship, readers have voted Lando Norris the best British driver of last season, ahead of fellow F1 rising star and 2022 Mercedes driver George Russell, World Endurance champion and Le Mans winner Mike Conway, and 2021 Formula E P4 finisher Jake Dennis.

Lando Norris who collected his third consecutive time best British Competition Driver award expressed his gratitude to fans through a video recording. Lando Norris started his intro with seeking apology for not being able to attend the function physically. Lando Norris went on to say he prefer winning this award in place of winning an F1 world title as he finds more value to the honour voted by fans.
“Hello everyone… first of all apologies. I am unable to join you all tonight. Its probably my first time I am not actually able to be there. I have been there since I was a little boy,” Lando Norris said.
“I am accepting the award for British Competition Driver and in a way, this is more important than winning Formula 1 world championship. If I had to choose, I prefer British Competition Driver award and because it’s voted by the… amazing Autosport’s fans and that definitely tops a Formula 1 world championship I am very happy,” Lando Norris added.
Lando Norris said that he had a very good season in 2022 his best far in F1 and added he hopes the upcoming 2022 season will be even better than past enabling him to evolve and constantly improve. Lando Norris again thanked the F1 fans for the award bestowed on him and share his optimism that he may be able to see them soon.
“It was obviously a very good season I had last year and my best in formula 1 to date. But on the flip side hopefully this season coming up is even better more progressed an evaluation of myself and things constantly improving , so I am excited. Thank you very much for the award, see you all soon,” Lando Norris said.
Lando Norris fellow britt Lewis Hamilton didn’t get nominated to the award as he was instead nominated for international driver of the year which he lost to 2021 f1 champion Max Verstappen. Lando Norris will have to give produce the best version of himself in 2021 if he wants to win the award again as George Russell’s move to Mercedes proves to be a challenge. Lando Norris will also have to face teammate Daniel Ricciardo who will be hoping to revive his career after a disappointing 2021.
