The 2021 season was one for motorsports history books where we saw Red Bull’s Dutchman Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton going wheel to wheel through out the season where Max Verstappen came out on top in the last lap, breaking the deadlock in championship points, of Abu Dhabi GP with the help of some controversies.

Nicholas Latifi, the Canadian racer for Williams crash at 53ed lap of Abu Dhabi GP was the turning point in championship where the race director Michael Masi’s unlapping call allowed Max to take the win over Lewis Hamilton who was Leading Majority of the race.

But the crash remained the only impact Nicholas Latifi had on championship as the 2019 F2 runner up failed to showcase his skills. Nicholas Latifi who is regarded as one of the “pay drivers” by some F1 fans only had 2 top 10 finishes finishing 17th at drivers’ championship being outperformed by his teammate George Russell who finished with 16 points at 15th.

Williams’ heads of vehicle performance Dave Robson have expressed teams’ thoughts on the Canadians 2021 season. He said Nicholas Latifi have been inconsistant this season adding that Williams had been bouncing a bit between qualifying and race pace but says Nicholas Latifi still got the talent to drive and understand the problems of William’s car.

I think this year has been a bit more up and down than we’d hoped, we [Williams] have bounced a bit between qualifying and race pace, but he’s still got a lot of very good talent for driving a car and understanding and articulating where the problems are,” says Dave Robson.

“Obviously, it’s a massive reset next year. The cars are completely different, new teammate as well, so I think there is an opportunity for him next year to really shine. I think there’s still a chance that he can do that,” said Robson.

Robson said Nicholas Latifi needs trust his instincts and quit overthinking saying that Nicholas Latifi bit too intelligent to just drive on his instincts though he has it. He went on to say that Nicholas Latifi should be able to achieve driving with his instincts as his F1 counterparts in 2022 as they expect the car to be quicker. Robson said this will help Nicholas Latifi to relax and get the upward momentum going.

“He’s got what he needs, but he perhaps needs to trust his instincts a bit more and maybe will always think too deeply about it, which is potentially part of the problem that comes and goes. He does have a tendency to overthink, and he’s almost a bit too intelligent to go out there and really just drive on his instincts. But crucially he does have those instincts,” said Dave Robson.

He can do it, but I think it’s almost a chicken and egg thing,” Robson said. “The car being a bit quicker means he can relax a bit, particularly in the early part of qualifying, He can then start to really trust his instinct, to drive like he can do and like most of the drivers do. So, he can still get up on that upward spiral and do a good job for sure,” added Dave Robson.
