“No one can get into a Formula One car,” Lewis Hamilton decodes the biggest misconceptions of being an F1 driver

Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton is widely regarded as one of the greatest racers to grace the Formula One grid. The 7-time World Champion has won 103 races 103 pole positions and 182 podium finishes across his career, the highest by a driver.
Formula One is a high speed sport where the adrenaline is always high. To power through a circuit at 200+ Kilometers per hour, facing 5 G’s of force acting upon you while taking corners and the mental strength taken to push lap after lap is nothing less than a mammoth task in itself.
While many think F1 is a lazy sport where drivers just race around a track, Hamilton shares that racing is an extremely risky and challenging sport in reality. The former world champion explains the mental and physical demands of the sport and bursts the biggest misconception he feels there is.

Lewis Hamilton calls out some of the common misconceptions around driving a Formula One car

Lewis will face off against Max Verstappen in the 2022 season. The duo shared an epic duel for the 2021 title where the Dutchman pipped the Briton to win his maiden title in the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi. The British F1 Driver talked about his experience with CrowdStrike in an interview featuring Danny Hornigold and George Kurtz, CrowdStrike CEO.
Regarding the myths and misconceptions of being a Formula One driver, he says “It is unlike every other sport where all of us can get a swoosh, but no one can get into a Formula One car. Some of the Super Wealthy maybe, but still to put it on the limit like we do. Usually, when I talk to people I tell them the amount of Weight that gets lost in a race and they are usually shocked”
Lewis continues “No one understands the G-force, the pressure the body goes through and the mental pressure to keep the car on the rails and the technical side. In the end of the day as a driver, you need to be far more than someone who just jumps in a car. You have to be a leader, an engineer and be able to engineer your car and speak the technical language.”
Lewis Hamilton will be partnering with rookie George Russell ahead of his 10th year in Formula One with Mercedes. The Briton is confident that despite the technical regulations Mercedes will be in contention for the title and believes he can redeem his 8th World championship title.
