Lewis Hamilton took social media to storm after posting for the first time since last season finale on December 12. He hadn’t posted anything on his social media since the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Post has gained 1 million and more likes within 1 hour of posting.

The controversial race concluded with Max Verstappen overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the penultimate lap and winning his maiden World Championship. Critics of this ruling have since alleged the championship was “robbed” from Hamilton.

The 7 time world champion shared for the first time on social media since the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. During his time up, speculations began to stir of him leaving the sport due to the unfair judgements passed.

“Hamilton’s retirement” set the internet on fire as more and more rumours started to break out that the 7-time-world champion will be leaving the sport for good. The speculations went to a level that there were rumours stating title rival Max Verstappen will be swapped by Mercedes to fill the Brit’s shoes. These rumours have since been put to bed, allegedly.

Following the crash of William’s Nicolas Latifi, a safety car was bought out. Masi gave the controversial direction that only the five cars between Hamilton and Verstappen were allowed to unlap themselves. Verstappen has a fresh set of tyres while Hamilton had an old set was at a serious disadvantage.

This resulted in Red Bull’s Max Verstappen overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the final lap to beat the 7-time World Champion to the title and claim his maiden title. The mismanagement and fallout following the season finale in Abu Dhabi generated a lot of heat. FIA race director Michael Masi has come under inquiry for allegedly not following the rules during the late safety-car period.

An internal investigation is being conducted by the FIA is now underway to establish whether Race Control followed the regulations regarding lapped cars passing the Safety Car. The results of the investigation shall be out on the weekend of the Bahrain Grand Prix, i.e. on 18 March. Hamilton will be racing for his 10th season with Mercedes in 2022 and shall be teaming up with rookie George Russell.
