‘Really hard for Lewis Hamilton to accept if…,’ Mika Hakkinen casts doubt on Briton’s comeback in 2022

The 2021 season hosted the last year the hybrid car era where Red Bull’s Max Verstappen ended the dominance of Mercedes Lewis Hamilton securing his maiden F1 world title. Lewis Hamilton missed on the chance to secure a record-breaking 8th world title thanks to a controversial unlapping decision from race director Michael Masi. A furious team Mercedes lodged a protest against the decision which was turned down by the stewards.
Lewis Hamilton decided to keep himself away from public and social media as the 7 times world champion only made two public appearances since also unfollowed everyone on Instagram prompting speculations on his retirement from F1. Mika Pauli Häkkinen , nicknamed “The Flying Finn” , the 1998 and 1999 Formula One World Champion with McLaren has come out expressing his opinion on Lewis Hamilktons comeback to F1 and potential struggles he may face in 2022 season after the implementation of entirely new regulations.

Mika Hakkinen acknowledges that the Formula1 regulations have dramatically changed and he feels that it will be really hard for Lewis Hamilton If the Mercedes designers failed to find an optimum Machine for him in 2022 due to new regulations. Mika Hakkinen went on to say it will emotional for Lewis Hamilton if he doesn’t have the best car. Mika Hakkinen added that he hopes Lewis Hamilton will come back though there are a lot of uncertainty surrounding him.
“The regulations in Formula 1 have dramatically changed. It is going to be a completely new machine and the chances are that the designers might not find an optimum machine. If that happens to Lewis it is going to be really hard for him to accept,” Mika Hakkinen said.
“If you have been at the top of the mountain and suddenly you have to climb back up the mountain because you don’t have the best car, it is going to be emotional for him to control. There are a lot of question marks surrounding Lewis. We don’t know whether he is coming back, but let’s hope he is,” Mika Hakkinen added.
