Red Bull’s Adrian Newey ‘Happy’ Upon Being Questioned Upon Their Pace from Mercedes

Before the British Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton made his significant comeback, the Austrian team were in charge courtesy to the pace shown by Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. The duo helped the team clearly out-race both Mercedes drivers and extended the lead of the Constructor’s Championship drastically. Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey feels that whenever the team was questioned upon their pace by rivals like Mercedes its surely a compliment.

During the spoken about string of races, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton evidently accepted that Red Bull are the clear cut, faster team on the street circuits. Although the Austrian team has been questioned upon the ‘bendy’ wing. Even so, the Austrian team refused there is anything illegal on their car, with team principal Christian Horner insisting that their cars’ rear wings had passed stringent tests. Yet it does not take away the fact that the pace shown by them was simple exemplary.

“We have experienced this before, but I can’t remember a time when we have received the same level of behind-the-scenes politicking and lobbying against our car. Possibly if you look back to when we were exploring aeroelastics in 2010 / 2011 then we were under constant scrutiny and would adapt to each changing set of regulations. We’ve been here before in the last championship battles with Ferrari which involved some rows over bodywork flexibility as well.”
