George Russell the Mercedes Formula One driver has impressed one and all with his performances so far in the season and former F1 driver turned sports pundit Martin Brundle has recently applauded the young brit for his performances in the first three races of the 2022 Formula One season.

Before the Australian Grand Prix, there was a clear ranking made with Mercedes being the third quickest team behind Ferrari and Red Bull but the silver arrows have had better outings so far as compared o their arch-rivals Red Bull who have scored two DNFs with Max Verstappen.

George Russell has done the maximum that was possible in the first three races with the package that he was given and as a result of that is now in the second position in the Drivers Championship ahead of Verstappen who has won a Grand Prix in 2022.

Mercedes-powered teams struggled in the first two races but in Australia, everyone did well except Aston Martin. McLaren finished P5 and P6 whereas Williams was able to land their car in P10 at the end of the race.

While talking about the Mercedes engines Brundle said, “The Mercedes team and the Mercedes-powered McLarens looked much stronger although, despite two safety cars closing the pack and just Leclerc cruising out front, the Mercs still finished 25 seconds behind, and the McLaren duo a closely fought 53 seconds adrift. There’s a long way to go to catch up.”

Brundle the F1 analyst is very pleased with what Russell has been able to do in his rookie season with Mercedes and while talking about his performances during 2022 has said, “He (Russell) doesn’t appear to be struggling to keep with Lewis in qualifying or race trim and that’s impressive against the great man. George is second in the drivers’ championship due to classy fault-free driving and reliability. Now he needs the car performance to take a decent step forward in a hurry.”

Brundle has backed the young brit for mega performances in the upcoming races as he feels he is a reliable driver who has the calmness and the concentration that is required in order to keep pace with everyone around and also to avoid getting into unnecessary altercations on track.

George Russell is currently P2 in the driver’s championship ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton and this has surprised people up and down the paddock as no one expected Russell to be ahead of Hamilton in the championship before the start of the 2022 season.

Given the positive start that Russell has gotten off to during 2022, it is going to be fascinating to see what the young driver is able to do when Mercedes finally is able to produce a W13 that is able to fight for the championship.
