Mercedes driver returned to social media with a storm on 6th February. The 7-time world champion had dropped out of everyone’s sight since the 2021 season finale. The Briton had posted to his social media a picture of him smiling while posing against a backdrop of Grand Canyon.

The post read: ‘I’ve been gone. Now I’m back!’ sensing his return to social media and eventually the formula one grid. The Instagram post gained more than a Million likes within its first hour.

The recent post by Hamilton quashed the rumours surrounding his retirement from Formula One. His absence from media added fuel to the argument that Hamilton was “Robbed” off his championship. The World Champion was apparently deeply hurt and was spotted crying with his father in the paddock after the last race.

Following the crash of William’s Nicholas Latifi, a safety car was bought out. Masi gave the controversial direction that only the five cars between Hamilton and Verstappen were allowed to unlap themselves. Verstappen has a fresh set of tyres while Hamilton had an old set was at a serious disadvantage.

This resulted in Red Bull’s Max Verstappen overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the final lap to beat the 7-time World Champion to the title and claim his maiden title. The mismanagement and fallout following the season finale in Abu Dhabi generated a lot of heat. FIA race director Michael Masi has come under inquiry for allegedly not following the rules during the late safety-car period.
