Mercedes recognizes that their machinery has not been the best on the grid so far and has a lot of work to do in order to make it a championship-winning car and thus this year particularly, fans see a lot of potential in teams other than just Red Bull or Mercedes in being in the top three positions of constructors as well as the driver standing even though Mercedes does not find any other team as a capable threat except that of Red Bull.

George Russell was a second slower due to an individual error, but the Mercedes duo rallied late in the race to finish third and fourth, their positions elevated by the late retirements of both Red Bull cars. “For me personally, it feels a similar position to what I found myself in in the previous years,” Russell said, comparing his current situation at Mercedes to his previous three-year stint at Williams.

With the competition rising day by day, Russell finds it hard to afford to make mistakes as the competitors are also far in front of the fight so it might be difficult for him to make for the gap taken on the “almost affordable” risks.

George Russell talks about the team and their plans:

George Russell said that there is more for the show from his and the team’s side to showcase conceding his first weekend as a Mercedes driver. He said there is, “always more to come” from both him and the team.

Russell is trying to push hard due to the added pressure of being a Mercedes driver, he has to always perform the best and qualify at the top which resulted in not a cheery mood when he qualified P9 even though “we had the pace to get back up through the field to P5, P6, so we’re in a bit of an intriguing spot right now that we can try a few things,” said Russell.

Despite the gap in pace between the top two teams, Mercedes finished second in the constructors’ standings with 27 points. Ultimately due to which, “There is more to come from all of us – myself, Lewis, the whole team – and we just need to keep on working.” Added George Russell.
