McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo has been struggling in the new 2022 MCL36 after being out-qualified by his younger teammate Lando Norris on both Saturdays. The Australian has yet to score a championship point so far this season and seems to be struggling with the new regulations car.
Daniel Ricciardo returns to Albert Park this week where he will race in the Australian GP as a McLaren driver for the first time. And F1’s ‘Honey Badger’ is elated to return for his first home race in 3 years. But the 8- Grand Prix winner has recently opened up on his split from Parent team Red Bull in 2018.
The Aussie rose through the Red Bull junior driver programme and entered Formula One in 2012. He enjoyed his most successful spell with Red Bull between 2014 and 2018 but made a surprising switch to Renault after the 2018 season. Ricciardo admitted that he made the switch because there were “a lot of internal issues” in the team and not because the team were lacking performance.

Daniel Ricciardo earlier admitted that his old driving style and traits which he picked up from his early days in Red Bull. He has achieved 8 Grand Prix victories and 29 Podiums during his spell from 2014 to 2018. Ricciardo admitted in an interview with The Sun that leaving Red Bull would be difficult for him, but at the time he felt it was the best thing for his future.
He said, “Looking back, there’s nothing I regret or think I should have done differently. Right now Red Bull is back on top and they’re fighting to be world champions again, I knew that. would end up happening over the years. Within the team there were a lot of internal issues, it’s not just that they had a fast car and for that reason, I should have stayed with them.”
Ricciardo added, “Obviously, I would love to win a world championship with McLaren and then say something like I told you or something like that. Of course, I understand why that doesn’t happen, things like that have already happened with a lot of people and it’s fine, it doesn’t piss me off. I also knew that leaving a great team was going to be a problem, but at that moment, I felt that it was the best thing for me. I keep that thought”
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner admitted that he could not understand the reasoning behind Ricciardo leaving Red Bull despite being offered a “stratospheric” contract offer. Daniel Ricciardo was going to continue his journey with Red Bull until his shocking revelation of him not wanting to do so after the end of the season.
