“There’s still stuff for me to learn,” Daniel Ricciardo following his nightmare return to Formula 1 in the season opener in Bahrain
Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo had joined McLaren to fight for the championship and fulfill his potential. But that hasn’t had happened as he failed to adapt to the new challenger MCL-36. The Australian had a subdued first season with McLaren as he was outperformed by his team mate, Lando Norris. Lando Norris hasn’t been around for a really long time but has already shown signs of real promise for McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown.
But what Zak Brown would have ideally want was for both drivers to fire on all cylinders helping the team to stamp their authority on that 3rd place keeping in mind the difficult start to the season that Mercedes has had. There’s nothing more painful in Formula 1 than to be outclassed by your team mate on an identical car. This has been an eye opener for Daniel Ricciardo who has somewhat been humbled the whole experience.
He also hasn’t had it easy with COVID-19. He contracted the virus during the Bahrain testing. Though he was able to recover from COVID-19 before the race weekend a lack of preparedness showed in his qualifying and practice runs as he failed to get a hold of the car and push it to the limits.
Daniel Ricciardo humbled after his horrific start to the season at the Bahrain GP
Daniel Ricciardo acknowledged what went wrong in the first race of the season. He said, “It was definitely tricky. I think as well, there is a lot to try and understand. I knew there would be.”
“I think it was trying to treat it like a test session as well, trying to learn as much as I could each lap.”
“I think it’s probably going to require a bit of patience, race to race. I don’t think we’re going to get overnight changes.”
“There’s still stuff for me to learn and improve with the new car.” As reported by Formula1.
Nobody can question the talent of Daniel Ricciardo which has time and again come to the fore for the world to see and admire. What he seems to lack is that application when the chips are down. We all hope that Daniel Ricciardo can sort himself out and provide us with the performances which we are used to seeing from him.
