The FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has recently weighed in on the situation in Saudi Arabia and has assured everyone that the group that attacked the Aramco Oil Factory do not harm civilians and that the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is safe for everyone to attend.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem after yesterday’s meeting with the team Principals and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has said, “They are targeting the infrastructure, not the civilians, and, of course, not the track. We’ve checked the facts and we’ve got assurances from the highest level that this is a secure place. Let’s go on racing.”

The FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem is confident about the information that he has been given and also has full faith in the capabilities of the security personnel at Jeddah and hence has decided to stick to the schedule in Saudi Arabia.

One of the main reasons behind Sulayem’s confidence in the local authorities is the fact that the FIA has received assurances from the highest level security personnel in Jeddah and this has somewhat calmed the butterflies that he might have had after the news of the drone attack “broke out.”

After the FP2 session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, an immediate meeting of the drivers and team Principals were called that was also attended by Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

It was a 40-minute meeting after which it was decided that the race should go on as per the schedule and that there was no need to make any changes. While there were some drivers who were skeptical regarding the upcoming race, the various team principals showed their hand in support of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and insisted that the race should go ahead as planned.

Christian Horner the Red Bull team Principal even indicated that the sport has to stand collectively against acts of terrorism and that such things should not be tolerated.

I think the sport has to stand together collectively. Any act of terrorism cannot be condoned and the sport should not be bullied into a position and a situation like that, it just isn’t acceptable.”

What Christian Horner has said makes a lot of sense and given that the race is going to take place as per plan, this bodes well for all the F1 fans that would be tuning in from all over the world this weekend.
