McLaren’s in 2022 Australian GP

Daniel Ricciardo returned to Albert Park for his home race in the Australian GP as a McLaren driver for the first time. Ahead of the race both he and Lando Norris were struggling to get the best of the MCL36 but failed to do so. Lando had secured the only points for the team in the Saudi Arabian GP. Both drivers put a solid performance and outperformed the struggling car giving the team much-needed momentum.

Team boss Andreas Seidl answered, “Obviously, with these cars being brand new, the tyres being a bit of a different specification compared to the past, there is still a lot you need to learn in terms of what you can do with these tyres over the race distance. Doing these long stints on the hard tyres – actually both tyres – was also not easy to guess how much tyre management you had to do.”

He added, “So there was always a bit of management as well but I would say both cars, Lando and Daniel, had pretty much the same performance. I think they, in the end, extracted everything that was possible to extract from our car and also very happy with that.”

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc claimed his second victory of the season within the first two races of the 2022 Formula One Career. The Monagesque started the race in Pole Position ahead of Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Mercedes rookie George Russell.
