McLaren has been struggling to find speed on the track. The 2022 MCL36 has looked by far the slowest of the midfield pack compared with the likes of Alpine, AlphaTauri and Alfa Romeo. Yet, team boss, Andreas Seidl seems certain that the team can fix its issues and bounce back.

Drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris have yet to qualify for Q3 with the Aussie yet to score his first points for the season. The MCL36 has been wrestling porpoising in the first two races and lacks straight-line speed. And questions have been raised on how the team addresses the issues.

Although the first suspect is the Mercedes Power unit which in comparison to Ferrari and Red Bull seems to be slower on the newer generation cars. Andreas Seidl says the team is working on its upgrades “that were already planned in advance” and believes the team are positive about the development of the car.

McLaren seems to be in a tricky situation at the moment. With the first two race weekends behind us, McLaren sees themselves 8th in the Constructos Championship with just 6 points. And all the points for the British outfit have been scored by Lando Norris in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after finishing seventh. Team Principal Andreas Seidl has provided information about problems with the car.

Seidl said, “There is no specific source of error. The car works and we have a good basis, but we simply lack the grip.” He added, “We know that we have fundamental problems with the performance of our car. That’s our focus at the moment. Development has been very good over the past three years. The sun has been shining on the team all the time. Now, this is the test for us as to whether we can deal with such a situation.”

He added, “We continue with all the upgrades that were already planned in advance. In this way, we can possibly achieve short-term improvements. At the same time, we are making a major analysis of our entire aerodynamic concept. We are at the beginning of the season. There is still enough budget and time in the wind tunnel for the continuous development of the car. I don’t think the current problems will stop us,”

Mclaren are at the moment 8th on the Constructors rankings with 6 points. The team are poised to bring new upgrades to the Australian Grand Prix on April 8-10. Let’s hope the vibrant orange team from Woking bring back their lost form and help Ricciardo secure a fantastic result in his first home race in three years.
