RedBull spoiled for choices in 2023?
RedBull
RedBull team could have a lot of thinking to do for the 2023 season of Formula1. Max Verstappen is at the top of the tree at RedBull and by securing his maiden world title for RedBull, he has pretty much cemented his place in the team and is probably not going to leave them anytime soon. Moreover, during the Formula1 2021 season, he has said many times that he wants to finish his career at RedBull only, so there is little to no doubt that Max is going to continue at RedBull after the 2023 season.
However, it is not the same case in the other seat at RedBull. For the 2022 season, RedBull has retained the services of Sergio Perez and after that, in 2023 that seat could go to anyone. With the help of Express we are going to look at three drivers who could get the nod from the RedBull hierarchy to drive for them in 2023.
Sergio Perez
The first on the list is their current driver Sergio Perez who has extended his contract for another season. The 2022 Formula1 season is going to be the most important season of Sergio’s career as during the season he would be fighting not only for podiums but also for his career in Formula1.
If he has to make sure that he has a drive at RedBull in 2023 then he has to give his all during the 2022 season and also has to cut down on the mistakes that he committed during the 2021 season. The RedBull seat is one of the most prestigious seats in Formula1 as they can go up against Mercedes as we saw in the 2021 season.
If Sergio Perez wants to add more accolades in his racing career, then RedBull is his best chance at doing that. He has to show the team that he is the man to partner with Max Verstappen beyond 2023 by giving mega and consistent performances in the coming season of Formula1.
Pierre Gasly
The other name that could get the other RedBull seat for the 2023 Formula1 season is Pierre Gasly. Pierre during the 2021 season carried Alpha Tauri single-handedly. Alpha Tauri as a team was able to score 142 points during the whole season whereas Pierre Gasly managed to score 110 points out of them. He had a stellar season for Alpha Tauri.
Given Pierre has driven a RedBull before, he could be in line to get the 2023 seat if Sergio Perez is not able to perform as per expectations during the 2022 Formula1 season. Pierre has previously said it before that he wants to get back in the main team and if Pierre can do a season as good as 2021, then he may well get the nod from the Redbull hierarchy.
Alex Albon
The third and last name on the list is Alex Albon. The Thai driver after sitting out the 2021 season of Formula1 has got a seat for the 2022 season with the Williams Formula1 team. Given there could be a seat opening at RedBull in 2023, he would be looking to perform at his absolute best during 2022 so that he can make sure they keep an eye on his progress as well.
The RedBull team has previously said that they want to keep ties with Alex and keep their options open, with this in mind Alex would want to give a solid season for the Williams team. If he wants the 2023 seat then he would have to outperform his teammate Nicholas Latifi, there are no two ways about it.
This should be Alex’s target for next season and like George Russell, he should also try to emerge as the leader of the team during the 2022 season. It’s all to play for in the 2022 season for the RedBull seat in 2023, and surely like the other contenders he would not want to miss the opportunity.
