Toto Wolff’s Comments Once Again Raise Questions Upon Mercedes’ Second Driver in 2022
Toto Wolff
Over the past few months there has been a lot of speculation over the driver who will grab the second seat at Mercedes in the 2022 season. However, Toto Wolff’s most recent comments have once again raised speculations over the approach of the team with the Belgian Grand Prix all set to mark the re-start of the current season.
With Lewis Hamilton already signing a contract extension, which driver shall join him? Knowing that the seven-time World Champion is surely going to be there until the 2023 season, he will try to elaborate upon his legacy season after season. But will it be possible without Valtteri Bottas beside him? As the Finn driver shall be without a team entering the 2022 season, if things remain the same.
What was Opinionated by Toto Wolff on Mercedes Second Driver in 2022?
Toto Wolff told tabloid newspaper Bild, this past weekend, “We have to choose between the stability of Valtteri and the talent of George, where the future lies. I want the topic settled in September so both of them can position themselves properly for the coming season.”
At the very least, he clearly ruled out signing Lance Stroll, whom Jacques Villeneuve believes the team will sign from Aston Martin simply because he won’t “bother” Lewis Hamilton.
Having said that, surely some fans are losing their composure upon the delayed decision as Toto Wolff and Mercedes keep on postponing the announcement for the same. But all eyes will be on the driver who grabs the second seat, as the Championship battle against Red Bull gets tougher season after season.
