Before the start of the 2021 Formula 1 season not many race fanatics expected to see Red Bull giving Mercedes such a tough competition. Having edged past Red Bull in the Constructor’s Standings, Valtteri Bottas feels that there are more updates to come within the current season, even when the entire focus of upgradation is on 2022. Safe to say that there is a split between the title contenders, one one hand, Mercedes’ aerodynamic work on the W12 concluded “a long time ago “, while on the other Red Bull feel it would be “foolhardy” to stop developing their RB16B.
The Finn driver feels that W12 have upgrades to come in 2021 itself and while the title challenge against Mercedes keeps getting tougher, the defending champions need to hold onto their crucial lead if they are to establish upon the turbo hybrid era domination.
What was Opinionated by Valtteri Bottas on Mercedes’ Upgrades?
“The fact is we are not developing the current car anymore at the factory, but there are still improvements to come,” Valtteri Bottas told Hypebeast.
He added, “Because obviously once you discover something in the wind tunnel, there’s a delay before you actually get the parts onto the track. So it doesn’t matter like this.
“We had some new parts at Silverstone and I hope we will have some more later on, but at some point that will have to stop because obviously next year there’s a big regulation change and the team needs to balance out the car’s performance this year versus next year.”
Not many are aware that it is claimed the downforce cut away from the rear floor area more significantly impacted the low-rake cars, including W12, which is surely a theory Valtteri Bottas supports as per his latest comments.
