Daniel Ricciardo and Christian Horner used to get along really well during the Australian’s journey with Red Bull but it didn’t end as everyone expected it to. Nobody saw that coming, especially Christian Horner. Red Bull’s team principal was sure of the fact that Daniel Ricciardo was going to continue his journey with Red Bull until his shocking revelation of him not wanting to do so after the end of the season.
There could have been a multitude of reasons behind the decision like Red Bull lacking to provide him with a reliable car or him wanting to look for new challenge. But, what seemed to be the reason was Max Verstappen emerging as a real threat to Daniel Ricciardo. It was pretty clear that Red Bull was working day and night to make Max Verstappen the youngest world champion.
This was something Daniel Ricciardo couldn’t digest. His aspiration was to win the world championship and not play second fiddle to a youngster who was coming up the ranks. While Christian Horner was looking to build after such a strong season, Daniel Ricciardo had something different on his mind as he decide to leave the Milton Keynes outfit to join their arch rivals or let’s say Christian Horner’s arch rival Cyril Abiteboul’s Renault.

Christian Horner still cannot understand the reasoning behind Daniel Ricciardo leaving Red Bull
Christian Horner still looks sour after his move to Renault at the end of the 2018 season. He said, “His timing was spectacularly bad. On the other hand, he could see that Max was blossoming and he didn’t want to become the second driver.”
