“You don’t have to be an A**hole,” Susie Wolff attacks Christian Horner for spewing hatred and unsporting demeanour

The 2021 Formula One season saw one of the tightest finishes in the history of the sport. The heated rivalry between Red Bull and Mercedes showcased the extreme competitive side of the sport. Even the team principals, Christian Horner and Toto Wolff didn’t hesitate in fighting the battle and took multiple digs at each other as the season unfolded.
The fourth edition of the Drive to Survive is set on the 2021 Formula One season and recaps the drama between the two teams. Both Wolff and Horner shred their opinions throughout the season about the racing and the series recalls them narrating the incidents.
But a new entrant who joined the cast this year was a former professional racing driver and wife of Toto Wolff, Susie Wolff. And Susie was not shy in describing the questionable methods adopted by Red Bull’s Horner who she has described as an “A**hole.”

Susie Wolff says Christian Horner was jealous of Toto Wolff’s success

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen clinched his first Formula One Drivers Championship title in 2021. After a controversial ruling by then Race Director Micheal Masi, the Dutchman overtook Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton whom he in the last lap of the last race in Abu Dhabi to claim his maiden title.
But apart from the on-track battle, there was animosity in the paddock between the garages of Red Bull and Mercedes. Both Christian Horner and Toto Wolff took numerous jabs at each other’s teams. But Horner managed to stick up to Wolff and had the last laugh. According to Susie Wolff, Horner’s resentment for Toto’s success at Mercedes fueled the cold-blooded attitude between the two.
Susie states on the Drive to Survive episode 9, “I can completely understand Christian. You know, he’s watched Toto winning for so many years. It’s clear that causes a certain resentment, and that’s competition. You know, it can get tough. It can get ugly.” She continues, “Sport is brutal. You need to be ruthless, competitive. But I don’t believe that to become successful you need to be an A**hole.”
Susie married Team Principal and CEO of Mercedes Toto Wolff in October 2011. She is a former racer who became the first woman to take part in a Formula One race weekend in 22 years when she tested for Williams at the 2014 British Grand Prix. Currently, she is the CEO and Team Principal of Venturi Racing in Formula E.
