Max Verstappen
The second free practice session of the first GP weekend of the 2022 F1 season has ended. We saw Max Verstappen putting up the fastest lap of the session with the time of 1:31:936 on soft tires. The second session was relatively smooth in terms of race control, with no car either spinning and no yellow and red flags coming out in the hour of practice.
As the practice session went on, all the drivers shifted to the soft tires in an attempt to bring out the maximum grip and speed from their respective machines. Throughout the second practice session in Bahrain, the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were consistent, like that in the first practice session, bagging the same standings as they did in the first session.
An incident occurred between Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda, where both the drivers came too close. The turn 8 incident brought out race control and was put under investigation by the stewards.
Max Verstappen triumphs, Mercedes struggles

The second practice session didn’t seem to go too well for the Silver Arrows. The Mercedes cars continued to struggle from porpoising. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was heard on radio complaining of the car bouncing too much and later an issue with the front brakes, which could prove to be challenging to fix, as we’ve seen in the case of McLaren’s MCL 36 post-Bahrain round of testing.
The reigning champion, Max Verstappen, was the second last driver to come out of the pit, only ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez. In his first lap, Max had put the second-best time of the session and later moved to the 1:31 mark, becoming the only driver achieving so in all the testing and practice.
Valtteri Bottas also managed to put his first lap officially of the weekend, after his car’s engine was repaired instead of being replaced as was speculated during the first practice session. The Finnish managed to finish at sixth overall. Whereas, McLaren’s issues continue to woe the team, with both the drivers being placed in the latter half of the timesheet.
