“Red Bull don’t have to tell me what to do,” says Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez joined Red Bull this season, after ending his stint at Aston Martin. The 31-year old has had a decent start to the season, finishing P5 on two occasions. The Mexican also finished P4 at the Portugal GP, and has been voted as the driver of the day on two occasions.
Helmut Marko, Red Bull team advisor has put pressure on Sergio Perez, and stated that the Mexican will play a key role in deciding the fate of the championship. However, Perez has stated that he does not need anyone to tell him what he has to do, and takes the entire responsibility for his performance.
“All the pressure is coming from myself,” the Mexican racer said in the build up to the Monaco Grand Prix. I really want to deliver to the maximum car potential, to where the team is operating at. The team hasn’t put any pressure on me, I know what kind of job I have to do so they don’t have to tell me what to do. The responsibility is with myself, it’s to deliver to my maximum,” said Perez.
Sergio Perez takes positives from Spanish GP
Sergio Perez finished P5 at Spanish GP, and accepted that it was not the best result for him. However, the Mexican stated that there were a lot of positives to take from his performance in Barcelona.
“I think Barcelona was already done on Saturday due to some other reasons, but if we take that race away there are some positives and there is a lot of progress that’s been made,” Perez added.
“These days, track time is very limited. When you start the weekend you go into practice and you have to really be on it, you don’t have a lot of time to even do a set up change or set up compromise. We go pretty blind into the race on Sunday,” he said.
Sergio Perez had a decent start to his weekend at Monte Carlo, as he finished P1 in the first practice session on Thursday. The Mexican will hope to challenge for a podium finish this weekend.
