Christian Horner and Toto Wolff agree it’s time to move on from the intense 2021 season

The result of the 2021 season has divided the F1 community, thanks to the controversial ending of the Abu Dhabi GP. However, no matter whom you supported for the title amongst the two fantastic drivers, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, for the championship, one can’t disagree that the season was brutal and intense for both, and they both deserved to win the title as much as the other.

The championship was cutthroat from starting till the end. The drivers fought out on the track, but it was their team principals screaming over the radios for their players. And all of the fights and intensity piled up over the season, deteriorating the relationship between Red Bull’s Christian Horner and Mercedes’ Toto Wolff, says Toto.

Nearly three months after the Abu Dhabi GP, the hostility between Horner and Toto have seemed to cool down a bit. Horner and Toto talked to the media in a press conference, in Barcelona, during the pre-season testing, and seems like they have reached a diplomatic conclusion of moving on from the 2021 season.

What did Christian Horner say on the rivalries and the 2021 season?

While sharing his thoughts on the rivalry and 2021 season to the media, Christian Horner, as quoted by racingnews365.com, said, “I think 2021 has been well documented. I think that maybe we share differences of opinion over Abu Dhabi, but that’s now done and dusted. All focus is very much now on 2022.”

“I think what you did see last year was a fantastic competition from the first race to the last race. I think that’s been a key part of Formula 1’s revival in popularity, that competition, and we hope that there’s going to be an equally exciting year,” added Horner.

Addressing the question of the desire of a similarly intense fight as that of the 2021 season, Horner while acknowledging the possibility of a third contender, said, “Ideally, a little less exciting at times! But an exciting season ahead, and I think there could be some other competitors joining that battle as well.”

“It’s arguably the biggest regulation change in the last 40 years, but I’m sure the intensity of the rivalry between the teams and the drivers will be as pertinent as ever,” concluded the Red Bull chief.

Toto Wolff agrees with Christian Horner

Toto Wolff agreed with the statements of Christian Horner on Abu Dhabi. The Mercedes boss said, “It got fierce at times and brutal. But there’s a lot at stake, it’s a Formula 1 World Championship and there is the fighting on track and the fighting off track for advantages, so that’s OK.”

“But I agree with Christian we need to move on. There’s been so much talk about Abu Dhabi that it came to a point that it is really damaging for all of us – stakeholders, F1, and we’ve closed the chapter and moved on,” added Toto Wolff.

On speaking of the relationships, Toto said, “Nobody likes to have permanent controversy, but it’s the field in which we have decided to operate. Everybody needs to defend the interests of the team, so it’s to be expected. I don’t know if I enjoy it, but it’s part of the job.”

Although it seems clear to everyone that the rivalry won’t settle down either between the bosses or the drivers. Max will hunt for his second title and Lewis for his eighth, and if there’s something we’ve learned from the past seasons and 2021 particularly, it’s that both are willing to go ocean deep for the glory.
