Christian Klien believes Max Verstappen can replicate the heroics of Sebastian Vettel in 2010 after a slow start to the season
Christian Klien, Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen’s start of the 2022 season has constantly been bugged by the car’s failure. Despite the reigning champion’s valor efforts in qualifying and race, he has only gathered 25 points following his 2 DNFs in the first three rounds.
While some may agree that Max Verstappen’s title defense has already been lost to Charles Leclerc as the driver seems to be running away with the championship, ex-Red Bull driver Christian Klien believes that it isn’t too late for the Dutch driver. Christian drove for Red Bull in 2005 and 2006.
Klien on Sport und Talk by ServusTV said with the pace in the Red Bull, there’s hope for Verstappen. He hopes for a comeback like Sebastian Vettel’s in 2010, who went on to win the championship despite trailing by 31 points going into the final 6 races.
Do Red Bull and Max Verstappen still have a chance?
The season is nearly done 10% of its total length. With 20 races left, it would be foolish to write off the team and the reigning champion from this year’s title contention. Red Bull’s boss Chrisitan Horner has also expressed his optimism saying, “The encouraging thing is we’ve got the basis of a quick car. There’s still a huge percentage of the championship still to run, but we need to get on top of these issues quickly.”
The battles between Verstappen and Charles Leclerc have been far too thrilling. We saw in Saudi Arabia how Max performed when his car’s technical issues didn’t trouble him. He went on to win the race.
Max Verstappen, although massively trailing behind Charles Leclerc, would be required to be consistent. And this consistency can only come if the team manages to get on top of the reliability issues. The faster they do it, the better chances they have.
