Formula 1 can be about to feature a new team very soon as Michael Andretti, son of the former world champion, Mario Andretti confirms that an official application has been made to the FIA following the Alfa Romeo debacle.
Michael Andretti seems to be determined, even after a spate of failures coming his way, to become a team owner of one of the F1 teams. The initial thought was the takeover of the Alfa Romeo which collapsed which startled Michael because it seemed like the done was done and dusted.
The paramount reason which was confirmed by Michael’s camp was that the team faced a lot of issues regarding who will be at the helm of affairs and the control of the team and not anything related to finance.
Time for Michael Andretti and Andretti Global to put the foot on the pedal and go for the kill
But that hasn’t slowed down Michael. But he is resolute and his intention of fielding a F1 team is still unswerving. His dad, Marco has also confirmed the same.
1978 World Champion Marco Andretti on Twitter, “Michael has applied to the FIA to field a new F1 team starting in 2024.”
“His entry, Andretti Global, has the resources and checks every box. He is awaiting the FIA’s determination.”
“All I can say is Michael is not giving that up. He has his eyesight on entering Formula 1, and he has some good people behind him. Stay tuned! It’s not over yet,” As reported by racingnews365.
Haas has been the only US led team on the grid. The inspiration is definitely out there for Michael Andretti and also the belief that if Haas can do it then it can definitely be done. F1 seems to have enjoyed a great deal of success post Netflix documentary series.
The circuit of the Americas has been a consistent fixture ever since 2012. After securing a new five year deal and Miami set to host a race pretty soon, this is the most appropriate time for Andretti Global to put the foot and pedal and secure a deal as F1 continues to become a more inclusive sport.
