One of the main debateable topics which come to mind when talked about Formula One is whether it is the car or the driver which makes the difference in the sport. Without a doubt, the best cars are the ones competing at the front of the pack, but it is also the best driver who wins.

The main competition is not just among the drivers on the gird but it is also against your team-mate where the pressure builds up in putting forth their best performance as both the drivers have the same car. In the 2021 season, Max Verstappen had outscored his teammate by 200 points while the gap between Mercedes’ drivers was comparative less with Lewis Hamilton 150 points ahead of Valtteri Bottas.

Along with the driver performance, the performance of the 2021 cars also showed immense amount of difference in the Constructors standing when the contending champions, Mercedes and Red Bull were nearly 300 points ahead of Ferrari even though it was in third place.

Pierre Gasly, a 26-year-old French driver who is currently racing for Scuderia AlphaTauri made an arguable statement when he picked a side on the topic, stating that the car “makes” the result in Formula One and if Hamilton would be driving for Hass, who didn’t score a single point in the 2021 season, he too would not be scoring.

“Even if Lewis is the best driver in F1 history, today, in a Williams or a Haas, he would finish last. It’s not even that he would be third or fifth, he would be 18th or 16th,” said Gasly.

Due to this, Pierre is hoping for Alpha Tauri to build him a car which is capable of racing on regular occasions with top five results, securing few podiums. Along with Pierre adding a third career podium at Azerbaijan Grand Prix to his tally in the last 2021 season, he has gained a lot of confidence and is ready to get back on track.

Gasly said in an interview, “I will be trying to build on the run I had of very good results and to continue to be on top of my game with the car I have.

“I really hope that this is a year when I can fight at the very front, to finish regularly in the top five and even higher if the car is good enough for that. Last year we came very close to fifth place in the Constructors’ and it would be super to achieve that this year. It’s too early to say if that will be possible but I will always give it my best shot and get the most out of our car,” Gasly added.
