Eddie Irvine casts doubts on Max Verstappen’s title credentials: “He just makes too many mistakes.”

Max Verstappen’s defense of the 2022 title has taken multiple hits so far, first in Bahrain and then again in Australia, both times resulting in a DNF due to a technical issue with the car.

Charles Leclerc has finished all three races of the season so far, and that too on the podium. So, while speaking of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, Eddie seems to have chosen his favorite between the two for the title, “I don’t think there is anyone faster than Verstappen, but he still makes a lot of mistakes, and Leclerc doesn’t.”

Adding onto the words of praise for the Ferrari driver, Eddie added, “He is very intelligent. He has personality. He is mature. In this sense, Verstappen seems ‘younger’ in my head. But he is kissed by a great talent.”

Eddie’s thoughts on Max Verstappen v/s Lewis Hamilton?

Last season, we witnessed an exceptional fight between Max and Lewis. The battle, which lasted until the final lap of the season, had the fans divided. Some were appreciative of Max’s aggressive style, while others liked Lewis’ more mature style of driving.

Amongst the comparison of the two, like between Leclerc and Max, Eddie chose Verstappen to be the faster driver here as well. He said, “Both very tough. Hamilton is exceptional, although I don’t think he has Verstappen’s speed. Max remembers Schumacher. He keeps an incredible pace, and whoever drives his car can’t keep up with him.”

Although Lewis is currently ahead of Max in this season, there’s no shred of doubt that the reigning champion would overtake Hamilton as soon as Red Bull gets on top of the reliability issues. Once those are handled, Max’s hunt for Leclerc will start all over.
