Esteban Ocon willing to sacrifice his holidays for Max Verstappen-Lewis Hamilton title battle

Esteban Ocon, Alpine driver was one of the only six drivers to have won a race in 2021. What made this race even more special was the fact that the entire season was dominated by Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Eventually, Max Verstappen managed to win the championship, overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the Abu Dhabi GP.

Esteban Ocon claimed the victory at the Hungarian GP, where there was a chaos on the opening lap of the race. The Frenchman held his nerve at the end, and assisted by his teammate, Fernando Alonso’s defence, he managed to win the race.

With newer regulations coming into effect from 2022, Ocon feels optimistic about his chances and wants to get involved in the title fight. He is ready to sacrifice his holidays in order to have more time to prepare for this season.

“It makes you want to be in the mix for sure, seeing all these fights, seeing them, Lewis and Max fighting there,” said Ocon to GPFans.

“It makes you want to be there as well. I can’t lie on that. For sure, it would be great if we could all be fighting for wins and podiums all the time. Hopefully, Formula 1 is going to go in that direction very soon with the new regulations. It’s maybe a dream, but I hope it’s not,” he added.

Aggression gave Max Verstappen the title: Esteban Ocon

Esteban Ocon believes that being aggressive in a fair away helped Max Verstappen win the title. Ocon added that both Fernando Alonso and himself have set their goals for this year, and will work harder before the season starts.

Esteban Ocon finished 11th in the drivers standings, whereas, Fernando Alonso came in 10th. Ocon missed a podium finish at the Saudi Arabian GP by the barest of margins, as Valtteri Bottas surpassed him just on the finish line.

“I’m working very hard towards that goal, me and Fernando [Alonso, Ocon’s team-mate]. We’re not going to have many holidays this year. We’re going to be in the factory until the last moment for it to work,” said Ocon.

“We know we have a challenge and hopefully, we can take it but yes, to see Max, the season he drove, the aggressivity he had, I think this gave him the title. Of course, there’s a lot of things that happened in the race but his aggressivity was well played, and fair play for him on the win and congratulations,” he added.
