The 2022 season will be starting soon and is bringing a new era in F1. With teams poised to launch their new drives this month, Alpine certainly has everyone’s eyes on its car. The team will be launching Alpine A522 on 21 February 2022, credited to their efforts in the trackside processes.
The Alpine team had a good season in the last F1 season with a win and a podium in its bag. Esteban Ocon, the young French driver, got the team their first win. And Fernando Alonso got his first podium since 2013 in Qatar GP last season, where his experience helped him complete the race with a single pit stop when three drivers punctured on the same strategy.
The team finished P5 with 155 points in the Constructors’ Championship as they struggled to find pace consistently. For the 2022 season, Alpine has reserved the same drivers and will have the Formula 2 sensation Oscar Piastri as the reserve driver.
Fernando Alonso’s expectations from 2022 F1 challenger
While talking about the new car and expectations from it, Alonso said, “More power on the straights and more downforce in the corner, that is what we are aiming for, all drivers. The trackside is quite strong now. We saw [last year] we scored, both cars, in a race where we maybe didn’t have the pace to score with both cars, so we are strong in many areas.”
“We just need a competitive package out of the factories in Enstone and Viry. We have been working for several months, and we have high hopes but let’s see,” concluded Alonso.
Alonso looks hopeful, and the fans too hope, that the team provides the veteran with a powerful machine that can match his potential. The driver has been an F1 world champion twice with Renault in 2005 and 2006 and continues to display exceptional racing.
