As Alonso and Ocon battled it out for position wheel-to-wheel, Alpine’s sponsors received a lot of attention. Initially, the two drivers were given a free rein to race by the team boss, Otmar Szafnauer before telling them to “hold position” with Alonso ahead of his teammate six laps later.

It was at lap 36 when the Spaniard reported the problem until then it was a great race. In fact, he was at the top of the intra-team battle against Esteban Ocon. “My car for whatever reason today felt faster than Esteban’s car so I had a little bit more pace, tried to overtake and pull away which is what I did, and concentrated on Bottas because he was very fast as well.” Said Alonso.

Fernando Alonso did feel dejected as both the drivers had a good pace and due to a fault in the car, the team lost a lot of points and “gave points to other teams.” Currently, the Spaniard has only contributed 2 points out of the team’s total of 16 points in the Constructor’s Championship.
