Helmut Marko rejects the possibility of a 2009 Brawn GP-like success in the new era

Helmut Marko
Ross Brawn is the current Formula One managing director, motorsports, and technical director, after whom the magnificent team of Brawn GP was named. He was also the team principal of said team. The team which participated only once in the Formula 1, that too in 2009 and won both the Constructors’ championship as well as the Drivers’ Championship. The team’s success is credited to its drivers- Jenson Button, the champion of 2009, and Rubens Barrichello.
The team managed to pull off the tremendous feat thanks to a loophole spotted by the technical team, which helped them make the double diffuser. This loophole wasn’t noticed by any other team, which helped Brawn GP win six of the first seven races of the 2009 season.
F1 has been cautious of a move of this characteristic and has thus considerably altered the aerodynamics of the 2022 car.
Red Bull chief advisor, Helmut Marko, denied any chances of an episode like double diffuser happening by saying, “The double diffuser was a political thing back then. With the standard teams like Mercedes and Red Bull have today – with simulation, computers, and all the resources – I don’t believe in it.”

Helmut Marko’s praises Verstappen and Hamilton

In an interview, Helmut praised Verstappen and Hamilton, as both the drivers were driving in a league and class of their own in the 2021 season, which resulted in an extraordinary title fight.
Marko said, “Hopefully, it [the grid] will get closer. Because basically, in driving at full speed, the two of them lapped the field. But I think the balance of power will remain the same.”
Marko showed some hopes for Ferrari in the 2022 season- “Perhaps Ferrari will take another step and win a race or two on its own. The final step they took on the engine [last year] was clear, and from what you hear, they are also doing very well when it comes to e-fuels. But you need consistency throughout the year.”
