This weekend has already started on a good note for Italian-based racing team Ferrari as both of their drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz secured a pole position and P3 respectively ahead of the main race tomorrow at the Bahrain International Circuit. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished P3 tonight right behind teammate Leclerc who is going to start at the front of the grid tomorrow and defending world champion Max Verstappen right behind Leclerc at P2.

Ferrari showed exemplary performance today with their F1-75s as they quite literally started flying on the tracks with the brand new car which has been nothing short of reliable. Carlos Sainz was initially leading Q3 in qualifying with a timing of 1m30.687s, 0.044s faster than teammate Leclerc. Verstappen was close behind at P3 then despite facing some issues wit h the tyre temperature and out-lap pace.

It was in the final runs of Q3 that Sainz’s teammate Leclerc displayed crazy pace in a lap and secured pole position with a lap time of 1m30.558s with Verstappen right behind him but 0.123s slower. Sainz by then had skidded to P3 with Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez right behind him.

After securing P3 at qualifying , Carlos Sainz was seen telling reporters, “I’m quite happy with the progress I’ve done through the weekend-I’ve been very far off, more than half a second behind. So even to be fighting for the pole is good for me. It’s deserved, Charles has been ahead all weekend and he deserves the pole.”

What is to note though is the fact that Sainz and Leclerc seemed to be battling with each other for the pole position today. This is interesting to witness given Ferrari’s team principal Mattia Binotto’s statement ahead of the 2022 season of F1 that this season, the team is giving both the drivers full freedom to battle it out with each other on the tracks since the team’s primary focus this season would be to secure wins this season.

Tomorrow Carlos Sainz will start at P3 right behind teammate Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen respectively at the first Grand Prix of the season in the Bahrain International Circuit in the heart of the Sakhir desert.
