“It was a good start to the new era,” Max Verstappen looks pleased with the Red Bull’s RB18 after qualifying at P2 for the Bahrain GP

The grid for the Bahrain GP is all set. The qualifying happened and has certainly brought plenty of surprises for many. Few of the teams, which seemed to have had found pace in testing, struggled, while the vice versa was also observed.
However, to no one’s surprise, after the consistent performances in the testing and free practices, Red Bull are looking to fight head to head with Ferrari, as Max Verstappen has qualified for the Bahrain GP at P2, squashed between the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Max Verstappen had put the time of 1:30:681, just one-tenth behind the pole sitter, Charles Leclerc. The reigning champion looked comfortable with the car, as he topped the Q2 and finished third in Q1.

After finishing P2 in the qualifying, the driver looked pleased with the performance but certainly hoped for better. In the post-qualifying interview, Max Verstappen said, “I think we have a good car and a good race car. It was a good start to the new era. It was a really close battle with Carlos and Charles”
On being asked if it was the pure performance by the team and the driver, Max said, “It was a bit of a hit and miss.Q2 seemed quite good. Q3 was a struggle to get the balance together, but nevertheless, it was alright.”
Answering the question of how the new car felt, the Dutch said, “Not fantastic. Also, not too bad. Few things to look into to do, and we will try to do better next time. It was nice. A really close battle with Carlos and Charles at the end really did a good job.”
He signed off when the interviewer asked if Max is disappointed by Mercedes not finding the pace, Verstappen replied with a smirk saying, “Very, very.” Max Verstappen seems to have found a new competitor for now, as Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes struggled to get ahead on the grid. On Sunday, Max Verstappen step on to start the defense of his 2021 title, with Ferrari as its main hunter.
