“It would have been nice to have a double podium,” Sergio Perez after securing a P2 finish at the expense of Max Verstappen
In his second season with Red Bull, the Mexican driver, Sergio Perez has been giving his 100% and he is getting the results. Obviously Red Bull would be aiming at the top stop, but looking at the current performances of themselves and other teams, a podium finish is good enough.
At the Australian Grand Prix, Red Bull locked up the 2nd and the 3rd positions on the grid and they were looking forward to an amazing race, but it all went downhill after lap 39.
Max Verstappen had to retire his Red Bull and give up, what looked like a confirmed podium finish. This did benefit his teammate Sergio Perez as he finished 2nd behind Charles Leclerc, but Red Bull gave away a chance to get closer to their rivals.
The problems of Red Bull were there to see throughout the race as Charles Leclerc kept on increasing the gap between him and the rest of the grid. With two DNFs in three races, Red Bull needs to come up with an amazing strategy to overtake Ferrari in the championship standings.
Sergio Perez and Max in the driver’s championship standings
In a post race interview, Sergio Perez said, “It’s a good result, but we lost Max. It would have been nice to have a double podium for the team but we have been unlucky in the first three races.” as per gpblog.com
With the standings shaping up after the 3rd race, there is one clear standout, Charles Leclerc. While Red Bull’s Rivals are holding onto the top spot, Max and Perez are not even in the top 3.
Max Verstappen is currently 6th with 25 points and Sergio Perez is 4th with 30 points. Both the drivers will be looking forward to ending the season in the top 3 but it’s going to be one tough season for Red Bull if they keep making such slip ups.
