What a beginning to the 2022 season we’ve had in Bahrain today. The Ferraris finished P1 and P2, followed by the Mercedes of the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who wasn’t best in terms of pace over the opening weekend.

Lewis Hamilton, who started P5 in the Bahrain GP, finished on the podium after both the Red Bulls’ of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez got out of the race. The driver, who wasn’t looking in contention for the podium managed some good points and has set his foot the title this year as well.

In the post-race interview, not only did Lewis Hamilton congratulate the Ferrari team and drivers for a successful race, but also expressed his discontentment for the Red Bull. He said, “It was such a difficult race, we struggled throughout practice. This is really the best result we could have gotten. Of course, it’s unfortunate for the other two drivers but we did the best we could and I’m grateful for these points,” referring to Max Verstappen’s retirement and Sergio Perez’s spin in the penultimate lap of the race.

While speaking of the pace, Lewis acknowledged that Mercedes wasn’t the fastest on the weekend. They struggled to keep with Red Bull and Ferrari and had earlier even said they are in a league of their own. Congratulating Ferrari and its drivers, Lewis said, “Firstly, a big, big congratulations to Ferrari, so happy to see them do well again, that’s such a historic, epic team. It’s great to see Carlos and Charles up there as well, so congratulations to them.”

However, as the W13 of Mercedes will be undergoing further development, the driver will be getting faster on the track. Lewis is optimistic about the car and is proud of the team. He said, “I know the guys are working really hard back at the factory and it is not going to be a quick turnaround. I do feel like we’ve been the best unified team for so long. I know that we all know that… just keep your head down, keep working. There’s a long, long way to go.

The season is on and Lewis Hamilton has set out to hunt Max Verstappen for the championship, only obstacle for him is the lack of pace. If the team manages to slowly improve, he might be looking on for his eighth championship in 2022.
