The Formula One 2021 season could absolutely not get any closer than it did in Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening. After laps and laps of being thrilled by the incredible Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton rivalry, it all came down to the last lap showdown between the duo.
Max Verstappen, who was on the fresher set of tyres made a move stick on Lewis Hamilton at Turn 5 and defended his lead pretty well in the next corners. Although, Max Verstappen was fortunate to walk away with the win, as he was behind Lewis by almost 11 seconds when the safety car was called in.
Jos Verstappen, father of Max, was delighted to see his son being crowned the world champion on Sunday. Jos revealed that the race was so tense that he could hardly watch it in the latter stages. Like a proud father, he applauded Max’s fighting spirit and believed that he deserved the championship this season.
Max Verstappen pushed right until the end: Jos Verstappen

Jos Verstappen admitted that Max Verstappen was lucky to have the safety car in for the final five laps of the race. However, Jos stated that Max had pushed himself throughout the race, and he was flat out.
“During the race I walked away because I didn’t believe it anymore but I came back for the last lap. I think Max was the driver this year and he really deserved this championship. I think the whole team was worried because we know they’re speed. But he kept fighting. He will always fight,” said Jos as quoted by Express UK.
Max Verstappen had just one chance to win the championship on Sunday. 22 races throughout the year, but it all came down to a one-lap shootout between Max and Hamilton. Jos Verstappen applauded Max’s fighting spirit, and believes that its in his DNA.
“That’s in his DNA I guess and that’s what he did today. He said to me, ‘every lap I was flat out’ and he was driving to the maximum. Then he had one chance, one lap,” Jos added.
