Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, the two championship contenders gave us a season to remember in 2021. The duo fought right until the end, as Max Verstappen snatched the title away from Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the Abu Dhabi GP a few weeks ago.

We witnessed several great races this season, and some spectacular individual racing. Joylon Palmer, former F1 driver picks his standout individual performance of the season. He picked Lewis Hamilton’s incredible Brazil GP victory as his choice, which sprung the 2021 championship back into life.

Lewis Hamilton was given a virtual 25-place grid penalty for the Brazilian GP, and it seemed that Max Verstappen had the world championship all but sealed. However, Hamilton made up 15 places in the sprint race in just 24 laps, and went on to win the race starting from the fifth row.

It looked like Verstappen’s title was wrapped up on Friday night at Interlagos, when Hamilton was put to the back of the field after his car failed DRS checks post qualifying and had a further five-place grid drop looming for an engine change, said Palmer.

Joylon Palmer praised Lewis Hamilton for his majestic drive in such a high pressure situation. Palmer believed that Hamilton always had the pace advantage due to his new engine, but the way he glided past the field was incredible.

What happened next will go down in Formula 1 folklore. The recovery from 20th to fifth in just a 24-lap Sprint was majestic. Clearly Hamilton had the pace to charge, but the clinical nature of this rampage was that of an old school Hamilton we haven’t seen for a while: he took absolutely no prisoners,” said Palmer.

Max Verstappen resisted against Lewis Hamilton’s defence, but he could not hold him behind in the latter stages of the race. Eventually, after one or two tries, Hamilton finally made a move stick, and went on to win the Brazilian GP. From there on, Lewis Hamilton won two more races in succession in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Having passed 15 cars in 24 laps, it seemed likely he could win from 10th on Sunday – but after another great start he came up against a feisty Verstappen. It was a dramatic fight with some contentious Verstappen defence, but Hamilton claimed the victory and out of the ashes, kept his title fight alive. Superb,” he added.
