‘Keep number one,’ Christian Horner outlines Max Verstappen goal for next season
Christian Horner
For the 2022 Formula One season, reigning Drivers’ world champion Max Verstappen decided to change his car number from 33 to 1. And team boss, Christian Horner, thinks it’s a great idea and has set a goal for the upcoming season, which is to keep the number one on the world champion’s car.
With the possibility of a change of order in the F1 grid because of the new regulations, teams are spending as much time as possible on the track, hoping to learn more about the new cars. One team that has already attracted a lot of attention is the new Red Bull RB18, with its new aerodynamic designs courtesy of Adrian Newey. Red Bull are eager not to lose their position on the F1 grid while defending Verstappen’s title this season.
“It was a very short off-season, but it’s great to be back at the track and see the number one on the car, it’s been a long time since it’s been on an F1 car and our target this year is to keep it there. We are excited to get this new era of the sport underway and see the car run on track in anger for the first time”, said Horner in a Red Bull press release.
What Horner expects from Sergio Perez
Perez will drive alongside Verstappen for the team again for the upcoming season. And because of that, Horner has high expectations for the Mexican, who was able to get used to the Red Bull car and environment in his first year, unlike others that came before him. Perez is scheduled to do the testing for the team on day 2.
“With such a big regulation change it’s even more fascinating this year. We’ve got a great Team and we’re fully motivated coming into this season. Max felt the car was good to drive, so it was a positive first morning. It is going to be a good year for Checo, now he is in his second year with us more familiar with the Team,” said the Red Bull team boss.
