In his nine years with the team, Lewis Hamilton has won 6 world championships and had almost won for the seventh time with Mercedes and eighth overall, until Red Bull’s Max Verstappen overtook him on the last lap in Abu Dhabi in the 2021 decider.
After the contract extension of Max Verstappen with the Red Bull till 2028, Max is at par in terms of earning with Lewis Hamilton. This also makes the duo tie in terms of most paid F1 drivers.
Hamilton’s driving acumen and the success that came with it have made the driver one of the most renowned and influential celebrities in the world. He has also been active in philanthropy and has voiced his opinion in support of various social and political concerns. All this combined makes him one of the highest-paid athletes in the world.

The last contract extension after his triumphant 2020 season made Lewis one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. If the rumors are true, Lewis Hamilton pulled in $62 million in 2021.
According to Forbes, The Briton’s salary combined with the winnings is rumored to be around $70 million. Additionally, the driver is estimated to be earning another $12 million from endorsements. His prominent endorsements include Tommy Hilfiger, Gran Turismo Sport, Bell Helmets, MV Augusta Motorcycles, Monster Energy, IWC, Sony, Bose.
Lewis Hamilton’s current contract deadline with Mercedes
The seven-time world champion’s contract was renewed for two years in 2021. Earlier, his contract was only for a year but now lasts until the end of the 2023 season.
The contract extension for the British driver was signed in July of 2021 when the driver was challenging Max Verstappen for the world championship. As the driver signed the new contract, both the parties shared their rejoice in extending their partnership.
Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, as quoted by F1, said, “As we enter a new era of F1 from 2022 onwards, there can be no better driver to have in our team than Lewis. His achievements in this sport speak for themselves, and with his experience, speed and racecraft, he is at the peak of his powers. We are relishing the battle we have on our hands this year – and that’s why we also wanted to agree this contract early, so we have no distractions from the competition on track.”
Lewis is set to partner with the young George Russell for the first time. George is replacing Lewis’ long-time teammate Valtteri Bottas, who has left for the Alfa Romeo F1 team.
