Lewis Hamilton hits a new low after worst points tally since 2009
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton, 7-time world champion Mercedes driver hasn’t had the most dreamlike start to the 2022 season of Formula 1. In fact if anything, his first two GPs of the season at the Bahrain International Circuit and the Jeddah Corniche Circuit were disastrous given how he’s fared in the Mercedes cars over the years.
The Briton had barely managed to scrape to a podium finish at P3 in the Bahrain Grand Prix after the two RB18s of Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez had to be retired in the closing laps of the race due to a fuel pump issue. Hamilton had a P5 finish in the qualifying race of the Bahrain Grand Prix where he finished behind both the Ferraris and the Red Bulls.
As for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the Briton’s frustration was quite evident as this Grand Prix’s qualifying marked the first time since the 2017 Brazilian Grand Prix, that the driver got out in Q1 itself. He started the race from P16 and finished the race at Jeddah at P10.
What went wrong for Lewis Hamilton in the first two GPs?
In the Bahrain Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton’s W13 was absolutely no match for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz’s F1-75s and Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez’s RB18s in terms of pace. Mercedes continued to get overshadowed by the tough duel that Ferrari and Red Bull has been putting forth. Mercedes’ W13 still struggled with their porpoising issue.
As for the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix, Hamilton getting knocked out in Q1 itself was purely on the grounds of Mercedes struggling with its pace. This was the first time since the 2009 British Grand Prix that Hamilton got disqualified purely on engine power.
Lewis Hamilton has scored 16 points in the first two GP of the year.
This is his lowest points tally after two races since 2009.

The 7-time world champion will be looking forward to giving it his all in the next Grand Prix, the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park to get back to winning ways and try to give some serious competition to Ferrari and Mercedes.
