Mattia Binotto would surely be a happy team principal after the conclusion of the 2021 F1 season. Ferrari had one of their worst ever finishes in the constructors championship last year, as they finished a lowly sixth. However, they bounced back in style this season, finishing on the third spot ahead of McLaren.

Mattia Binotto, Ferrari team principal was very pleased with the way Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz drove this year. He believes that the two drivers helped each other grow during the course of the season. Carlos Sainz made his debut for Ferrari in 2021, and was one of the standout drivers on the grid, finishing P5 in drivers championship.

If we evaluate the performance of the pair we saw that they pushed and helped each other,” Binotto said. “I think one helped the other, even in those races when one of the two didn’t immediately find the right feeling with the track and the set-up,” he added.

He has also grown in his approach to racing, in his understanding and management of the tyres, as well as in his management of the race, also from the point of view of strategy,” Binotto commented.

Carlos Sainz ended his season on a high with a P3 finish at the Yas Marina Circuit, which helped him finish P5 in drivers championship.

Then he was very fast and confirmed a great ability to integrate into the team, a process in which I also give credit to the team for the work done in the winter on the simulator and beyond,” he added.

Mattia Binotto assigned both his drivers the same rating out of 10, as the team principal saw a lot of growth in the two drivers this season.

So I’m happy for Charles’ continued progress, which has confirmed a significant growth, as well as for Carlos’ performance, which has allowed him to maintain the expectations of the eve of the race. For both of them the vote is 8,” Binotto concluded.
