Netflix’s much awaited Formula One docufiction series ‘Drive to Survive’ is going to release this week after a fair share of anticipation from the fans. The show has earned praise for the supplementary information it provides fans, and it is attributed with introducing new fans (especially from the United States) to the sport. The adaptation of “the inherent drama of a racing season into a screenplay that might inspire a fan to check into the actual thing” has garnered praise for distilling season-long topics into single-episode plots.

The first season had released in 2019, which closely followed the workings of the 2018 season of Formula One. The fourth edition of the hit series will feature a closely documented season of 2021, which was rather more jampacked with dramatic turn of events. The most prominent one being the showdown between current defending champion Max Verstappen and 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which concluded with the Red Bull Racing driver clinching his maiden championship title.

What is to note is that the much illustrious Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’ has also received its fair share of criticism for using fictitious or inaccurate commentary and team radios, creating certain sequences, exaggerating the relevance of test and practice sessions, and overdramatizing or distorting important events and connections within the grid.

The Dutchman isn’t a big fan of the show. The producers, according to the current World Champion, fully exaggerate the racing season, so he also refuses to participate in the next season. In the interview, Verstappen stated, “My feelings on this are not going to alter.”

“I’m very down-to-earth as a person,” he added. “I like facts, that’s why this series is not my thing. I might go and watch it, but only to see how they have edited everything together again nicely over the top.”

Verstappen had time to organize a message with his fellow colleagues against the conflict in Ukraine while working diligently on his new car. Prior during the day, the Dutchman expressed his pride in the racers’ solidarity.
