“Red Bull needs to solve their reliability problems,” Mika Hakkinen after Max Verstappen fails to finish yet another race this season
Max Verstappen out of Australian GP
Red Bull finds themselves in a very weird situation. Their car is fast and their drivers are performing brilliantly but they are still unable to get the desired results. The current Formula 1 Champion, Max Verstappen would surely be worried as he’s suffered with 2 DNFs in three races.
The issues are in the reliability of the car. As one can remember, Max and Checo, both were in a great position to get a podium in the season opener but both could not finish the race as they had to retire their cars towards the end of the race. Even in Australia, Max Verstappen missed out on a podium with DNF on the 39th lap.
While Red Bull have had a disappointing start to the season their rivals, Mercedes and Ferrari, have performed well and got the results. This must be very frustrating for Red Bull as they clearly outperformed Mercedes throughout the weekend, but still ended up giving away points to them. There is no margin for a mistake for Red Bull, as they can see the Championship slipping from their hands in the very early stages of the season.
According to Max Verstappen, there is no ‘easy fix’ to Red Bull’s situation
In an interview, former Formula 1 driver Mika Hakkinen said, “It’s really surprising to see him [ George Russell ] second in the world championship, but his consistency and the reliability of the car are impressive.”
Stressing on the good performances by Russell and Hamilton, Hakkinen also said, “That’s another reason why Red Bull needs to solve their reliability problems,” as per gpblog.com
With the current situation, Red Bull needs to act fast and make all the necessary changes in order to get back to winning ways. As pre-season speculation suggested, Red Bull were top contenders for the Championship but as things stand the title race is going to be thrilling. The battle to win the Championship has become a ‘three way’ fight.
