McLaren braking troubles “won’t be an easy fix” : Lando Norris

After facing a somewhat positive round of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the first phase of pre-season testing at Barcelona, McLaren seem to have run out from that good run with the car. On Day One of testing at Bahrain yesterday, McLaren driver Lando Norris had to make rounds to the garage quite a number of times across the day which resulted in the Briton completing only 50 laps in total across a time period of 8 hours.
According to the driver’s lineup for testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, Norris was supposed to be on duty for the afternoon session, but due to Daniel Ricciardo facing some physical issue, the latter was forced to be exempt from testing yesterday.
Added to that, the McLaren car was also afflicted with serious mileage issues. The British racing team was the team with the second lowest mileage on the grid. The McLaren driver acknowledged that their prolonged sessions were hampered by concerns with brake temperatures.

The 22-year-old driver seemed dejected overall following the meagre progress Mclaren achieved on the first day of testing at Bahrain ahead of the first Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit. “I think on the whole, not the day we really wanted,” said Norris. It started off with me doing the whole day, Daniel was not feeling so well so I decided to jump in. It was much easier to do it that way. But we had quite a few issues with the car so it took a while to figure it out and it limited us quite a bit to do the amount of laps we wanted to do,” said the Briton on being asked on his views about Day One of testing.
He also added that overall the day was a tad bit frustrating given their progress in Barcelona. Ricciardo being out was anyway a deterrent for the team. Their main goal for the day was to get really acquainted with the car and try to understand the differences in testing between a track like the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and a bumpier track like the Bahrain International Circuit. “Made the most of it but definitely some issues which held us back and things we have got to fix,” mentioned Lando.
Norris tried to give further cognizance into the challenges Mclaren faced yesterday: “We just had problems with the brakes, simple as that. The exact problem, I am not too sure but temperatures and stuff didn’t allow us to do long runs at least. There are things we are trying to fix for the next few days. It won’t be an easy fix but we will see what we can do. Everyone is working hard to try and come up with something.” Testing at Bahrain will conclude tomorrow on March 12.
