Michael Masi in danger of losing FIA job as suitable candidate identified after shocking audio leak: Reports
FIA, Michael Masi
Troubles for Michael Masi don’t seem to be ending soon. The Aussie official has constantly been under slack for his call in the Abu Dhabi GP of 2021. His controversial call resulted in Max Verstappen winning the race and the 2021 Drivers’ Championship ahead of seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Masi’s call has been under scrutiny by many prominent celebs of the sport, and many fans believe that Hamilton was snubbed of the record eighth title. While the official investigation by FIA is underway, the rumors of Michael Masi getting sacked are stronger than ever, as a radio clip from the finale of the 2021 season went this week.
As DAZN Espana reports, FIA plans to replace Masi with Eduardo Freitas, World Endurance Championship race director. Freitas has experience of well over 20 years in motorsport and is deemed to be the perfect fit for the job. This report comes in the headlines after the radio between Red Bull’s Jonathan Wheatley and Michael Masi gained traction amongst the F1 community. FIA has assured this recording is a part of its investigation, the result of which will be out in March.
Who is Eduardo Freitas, perfect candidate to replace Michael Masi?
Eduardo Freitas is the race director in WEC. The Portuguese have experience of high-level race director experience. As one of the petitioners believes, he is- “regarded around the world as a voice of consistency and authority. It is vital that viewer and fan confidence is restored in the policing of F1 races which have been eroded throughout the 2021 season.”
Eduardo is probably the strongest contender to replace Masi if the latter is sacked and Eduardo is up for the job. He is a respected celebrity in the motorsport community and known for his stern and cool handling of the races.
