‘Need to prevent F1 from approaching football-like tension!’ Carlos Sainz accepts FIA error in Abu Dhabi GP mishap

Carlos Sainz, FIA

Carlos Sainz Jr. has gone on record to say that in the case of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, FIA may have committed a mistake in terms of their decision making and he doesn’t want it to be regular feature in Formula 1 like other sports.

The 2021 season of F1 definitely has to be the most epic season in the sport’s history and the finale was the cherry on the top. With the talent on show, the hunger shown by the drivers and hundreds of debatable points, this season had it all.

We had a lot of controversies throughout the season whether it was Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s crash at Copse in the British Grand Prix or Max Vestappen fighting Esteban Ocon in the pits, but this was all overshadowed by the controversy that occurred in Abu Dhabi.

What appeared to the naked eye was the inability of the FIA to take the correct decision when they were actually tested. It definitely looked like it was more about the business aspect of the sport and less about taking a call which was right.

We must not repeat the same mistake: Carlos Sainz on FIA Error

Carlos Sainz

In an interview when Carlos Sainz Jr. was asked about the fact, “Is the FIA the weak side of this F1?”

He very clearly replied, “We must not repeat the same mistake. Every football match generates controversy. We need to prevent F1 from approaching that kind of tension. But I don’t think the situation is disastrous, I’m convinced that it is improving.”

It can be said that the driver is right in coming out and accepting the fact that FIA did commit a mistake. It’s one thing taking a decision but it’s completely when you change your decision in a split second. FIA need to reevaluate their stance and be more firm or they will go to lose their authenticity.
