‘Time will tell,’ Lando Norris has ‘high expectations’ but expresses caution

Lando Norris

Lando Norris was soaring high and about to win in Sochi last year until the rain fell in the final laps of the race, and the young McLaren driver missed out on his first GP win. But one thing that that race showed us was Norris’ skills and the confidence with which he drove and managed to stay ahead of the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.

Lando’s best came in Monza, where he finished P2, just behind teammate Daniel Ricciardo. The driver managed to finish P6 in the championship, with 160 points to his name.

Going into the new season and new era in F1, Lando Norris is optimistic about the new MCL36, recently revealed by McLaren. The team will be looking forward to making moves for more race wins. The team CEO, Zak Brown, has earlier said, “We need to be careful not to raise expectations to an unrealistic level. I don’t want to say our goal in 2022 is to win two [races] – our goal is to continue to get closer to the front of the field. Of course, we’re going to give it everything we’ve got.”

Lando Norris shares somewhat a similar tone and sentiment as that of Brown’s. The driver is optimistic and has hopes for the new car but is also keeping himself in a reality check.

The driver said, “In terms of results and positions, there’s nothing that I can say because we don’t know how good our car is going to be. We don’t know what everyone else’s cars are going to be like.

Sharing his optimism for the team, Lando said to GQ: “Of course, we have high expectations, and we want to be confident and motivated, and so on, but there are so many rule changes this year, so no one really knows where they’re going to stack up. So time will tell.”

The young Briton is expected to improve this season and adapt early to the regulations, that have dictated the new car. If the car is fast enough, we might see Lando getting his first win after all.
