Toto Wolff blames FIA to be the root-cause of all controversies

The Formula One 2021 season was one of the most entertaining sporting events to be held this year. However, the entire season was surrounded by controversies, as even the last race of the season ended on a very bitter note.
FIA’s decision to allow only the lapped cars between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton un-lap themselves stirred a huge amount of controversy. Lewis Hamilton, running on an older set of hard tyres could not defend against Max Verstappen who was running on a fresh set of soft tyres.
As a result, Lewis Hamilton lost his record eighth title on the final lap of the Abu Dhabi GP. Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal admitted that his whole team were disillusioned and shocked by the events that occurred a few weeks ago.
Toto Wolff has pointed out to the inconsistent decision making by FIA which has in turn led to more controversies. There is some evidence in his statement, as the FIA have made some strange decisions throughout the course of the season, which has made one question the rules and regulations.
Controversies are part of the wider problem: Toto Wolff
Toto Wolff opined that controversies this year were created from the inconsistent decisions by FIA. Wolff commented that when the decisions are not consistent, the opinion of all drivers involved will also change, which will instead create more controversy.
“It is a wider problem. If you look at most of the controversies that have happened this year, it was about decisions, sporting decisions on the track, the inconsistency of the execution of the regulations on track. It is one thing to drive hard and to have differences of opinion among the drivers and the teams, it is in the nature of the game,” said Wolff as quoted by PlanetF1.
“But inconsistent decision making leads to controversies, leads to polarisation and that was the grounds for many of the totally unnecessary controversies on the track,” he added.
Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton will hope to keep things that occurred at the Abu Dhabi GP behind them and focus on the 2022 season. A huge overhaul of changes will come into effect next year, and as such, a lot of work to build the car would be underway at the moment.
