Mercedes Racing Team is not only known for its exceptional car with the best of drivers on the grid but it is also known for helping out in various social cause. Since 1954, Mercedes has won a total of 10 Constructors Championships and 13 Drivers’ Championships being one of the strongest and unbeatable teams of all time.

As of December 2020, Mercedes launched the Accelerate 25 Programme to combat inequality and advocate for greater diversity. One year later, the team provides an update on the campaign’s positive progress and soon the Mercedes team will become more diverse towards the end result of the five-year Programme.

It is hoped that by the end of the five-year scheme, more than 25% of new team members will come from under-represented groups. Mercedes-Benz achieved 38% last year. Throughout 2021, the percentage of female employees increased from 12 to 14, while the percentage of employees from ethnic minority groups increased from three to six.

The first-year report which should be published by the end of first year as stated in December, 2020 has already been achieved, highlighting a lot of positive impact.

Toto Wolff explains the process of the Accelerate 22 Programme

In an interview, Toto Wolff beings to talk about the progress made in the first year and says, “In the first year of our Accelerate 25 programme, we have made promising progress to develop a more diverse and inclusive team.”

Toto then adds on talking about the development of the Programme along with the long path it needs in order to achieve their goal and says, “Through detailed internal scrutiny and with the guidance of our excellent partners, we have been able to take the first steps on our journey in enabling access to STEM education and careers and building a pipeline of talent who we hope may consider joining us in the future.”

“To see a small but significant increase in our numbers of team members from under-represented groups is a sign that we are making progress, however, we remain acutely conscious that this is a long-term commitment and look forward to building on those initial steps.”
